Treyvon Martin -- Media Meltdown Again

In the last few days, we have learned that NBC News edited the 911 tapes of George Zimmerman's phone call to make Zimmerman seem racist. We have also learned that ABC News showed video that it falsely claimed was conclusive proof that Zimmerman was not injured during a fight with Martin as Zimmerman claims. What is going on?

First was NBC. During the full 911 call, Zimmerman made no mention of Martin's race until the 911 operator asked if the person Zimmerman was watching was black, white or hispanic. Zimmerman said that "he appears black." NBC News edited the tape to leave out the question from the operator and just stuck the "he appears black" said by Zimmerman to the end of another paragraph. So NBC made it seem that Zimmerman was fixated on Martin's race rather than responding to a question asked by the police when he said that Martin was black.

ABC ran video from inside the station house on the night of the shooting. According to ABC, the video showed that Zimmerman had no injuries to the back of his head as he had claimed. The injuries were supposed to be the result of Martin knocking him down during an attack. Now we learn that when that very same video is enhanced, it shows a gash on the back of Zimmerman's head -- the very wound that ABC says does not exist. ABC has all the equipment easily available to enhance the images in the police video. Instead of investigating, ABC decided to just put forth inflamatory and apperently incorrect information about the Zimmerman story.

These are two of the three major network news organizations which have modified facts to change the impact of a story or failed to investigate the facts before announcing a conclusion. It is hard to imagine a bigger indictment of the main stream media news.

We still do not know what happened between Martin and Zimmerman. There has to be time allowed to finish the investigation. No matter what, however, the main stream media has got to stop trying to create facts in this story. A person's life is at stake here. He is entitled to due process just like anyone else. ABC and NBC should be ashamed.
