60%, Really?

According to the latest poll by Fox news, 74% of Amercans think that president Obama has not been strong enough in confronting ISIS.  A large majority also think that Obama has no effective strategy for dealing with the terrorists.  Those figures did not surprise me; and rational person who is aware of what is going on in the Iraq and Syria understands the complete failure that Obama's policies have been.  What did surprise me, however, was this figure:  60% of Democrats polled thought that Obama had been too weak in dealing with ISIS.  Think about that.  On the principal issue of terrorism at the moment, Obama has lost the confidence of 60% of his own party.

It seems that Americans, including members of both parties, understand that speeches and gestures do not make for an effective foreign policy.  America needs to take action to achieve its goals.  In fact, without any action by the USA, the words of the president ring hollow indeed.

Now maybe someone can tell those fools in Washington about this basic truth.  America cannot be safe if we only use talking points to defend ourselves and help our friends.
