Julia Pierson has resigned as the head of the Secret Service. Okay, let's be honest; Julia Pierson was fired today by president Obama as head of the Secret Service. Pierson was brought in a year ago to clean up the Secret Service after news leaked that agents on a trip to Colombia had partied with prostitutes in Bogota. Since Pierson has been in charge, there have been no further stories about prostitutes and agents, but there have been those pesky stories about people getting into the White House past the agents or approaching the president while armed. The last White House intrusion took place with the perpetrator getting through most of the first floor of the building while armed with a knife. Then came the story that the Secret Service allowed an ex-con armed with a pistol to ride the elevator with president Obama in Atlanta. That was too much for Mr. Obama, and Pierson is now history.
Without a doubt, Pierson deserved to be dumped. She said yesterday that she "took responsibility" for the problems, so now she is getting the results of that responsibility. But what about other high ranking administration officials who screwed things up just a badly or even worse? For example, what about Director of National Intelligence James Clapper? He lied to Congress when he told them that the government does not "wittingly" collect information about Americans' emails, phone calls and other forms of communications. According to Obama, Clapper also failed to inform the president about the seriousness of the threat from ISIS, so the president was taken by surprise when the terrorists conquered a big chunk of Iraq earlier this past summer. These were not problems that were only potential in nature; there was an actual and knowing lie to Congress and the USA did miss the boat in trying to take steps to stop ISIS. Clapper, however, has not been fired. Why is it that this man has kept his position after two major debacles and Ms. Pierson has been forced out after two potential problems?
Let's give the answer that would normally come from the liberal media if the president were a Republican. It must be sexism. The man stays despite the screw up, but the woman gets dumped for something not nearly as bad.
Where are the protests from NOW? Why is there no email campaign run from the headquarters of Emily's List? How can the college campuses be quiet in the face of such blatant sexism? I mean there hasn't even been a hashtag created to express the outrage. I suggest that we use #missingPierson. I am going to tweet that out now.
