Bruce Braley (or as the First Lady likes to call him "Bailey") has managed to use his own mouth to destroy his candidacy for the senate from Iowa. Braley is a Democrat congressman who is the party nominee against Joni Ernst, the Republican for the seat being vacated by senator Harkin. Braley was thought by the media and the pundits to be a sure thing in this race. Then he managed to insult Iowa farmers, announce his allegiance to trial lawyers, and threaten to sue his neighbors because a few chickens walked across his lawn. Those statements woke up enough Iowans to the real Bruce Braley that Ernst has pulled into a steady lead.
Today brings us Braley's latest effort at self-immolation. He told a group in Iowa that when he goes to start up companies these days he finds a bunch of people sitting around white boards drinking beer and coming up with ideas that go nowhere. I am paraphrasing, but this is the essence of what Braley said. Is it possible that Braley really does not understand what he is seeing? Does he really think that start ups in Iowa are populated by alcoholic failures?
I have to wonder what Braley will say next? Hopefully, no one will ask him if he voted for president Obama in 2008.
