Time For Another "Reset" Button?

For as long as I can remember, there have been good relations between the USA and the Philippines.  We have military bases in that country.  We have good trade relations.  We help the Philippines defend themselves against threats from China.  In particular, the Philippines are one of the nations most threatened by illegal Chinese efforts to take control of the entire South China Sea.  We should be continuing on the path of friendship with Manila.  That's why it is sad to see how president Obama has managed to wreck our relationship with the Philippines.

The president of the Philippines just called Obama a "son of a whore" and he did it in public.  Because of the insult, Obama cancelled a scheduled meeting with his counterpart that was to take place at the G20 meeting in China.

In other news, there is outrage being expressed in the Egyptian media at Obama's avoidance of president Sisi of Egypt.  There had been an expectation that Sisi and Obama would be meeting but the White House has done its best to keep the two apart.  Remember, Sisi was the first leader of a major Islamic country to denounce ISIS and Islamic terrorism.  He is also commander of the largest Arab army in the world and leader of a country which is fighting its own internal battles against ISIS in the Sinai.  It is bizarre that Obama would avoid Sisi when the fight against ISIS is something that ought to unite the two countries.  The strange thing is that Obama is actually pushing Sisi into the arms of Putin and the Russians.

It's also worth keeping in mind that president Sisi has been pushing for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and that such negotiations are looking more and more likely now to take place in Moscow.  There will be no US involvement in them at all.

Between Egypt and the Philippines, two countries that have been very close American allies in the years prior to Obama's term, it seems that we are seeing the destruction of American foreign policy.  Maybe Hillary can suggest giving Cairo or Manila a reset button.  After all, she tried it with Russia and while it was a complete disaster, it did provide a nice photo op.
