The North Koreans exploded their fifth nuclear bomb test yesterday. It was their largest one yet, and they claim that it is now structured so that it can fit on a missile. The response around the world has been predictable, but I want to focus just on what Hillary Clinton had to say about the blast. Clinton solemnly announced that if she becomes president, she will not allow the North Koreans to get missile systems that will allow them to deliver atomic weapons to the USA.
I heard Clinton's pronouncement, and it took me by surprise. I mean, just how gullible does Hillary think the American people are? Clearly Hillary thinks that no one remembers the past regarding North Korea and its nuclear program.
Let's take a moment to consider the past. In the 1990's, the North Koreans were working towards development of nuclear weapons. The president of the USA, Bill Clinton, announced that he would not permit the North Koreans to get nuclear weapons. He started a negotiation with the North Koreans together with representatives of some other nations. Clinton finally negotiated a deal with the North Koreans under which they supposedly gave up their nuclear program and the USA provided the North Koreans with economic assistance. Because the agreement was weak when it came to our being able to verify North Korean compliance, the USA sent assistance and the North Koreans went right on with their nuclear program. They just kept it hidden to the best of their ability. The Clinton deal amounted to the USA sending cash to North Korea while it developed a nuclear weapon.
When the North Korean nuclear deal was first announced, there were many who said that it would not stop the NKs from going on with their nuclear plans. The Clintons, however, told us not to worry; the deal was iron-clad.
So now that the North Koreans are about to marry their nukes to missiles that can reach the USA, Hillary Clinton is back with assurances that she won't let it happen. We've heard those Clinton promises before, however. Why would anyone believe them now?
