It's worth noting that on Friday, a federal judge ruled that the civil case against Marilyn Mosby could continue. Mosby, you may recall, is the states attorney in Baltimore who brought criminal charges against six police officers in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. The majority of the criminal cases went to trial with all but one resulting in acquittal and one in a hung jury. The other cases were then voluntarily dismissed. Five of the six officers then sued Mosby for, among other things, malicious prosecution. The federal judge ruled on Friday that the officers had outlined a case against Mosby that could proceed with discovery and trial.
It seems pretty clear in retrospect that what Mosby did after the death of Freddie Gray was to indict police officers to satisfy the protesters and rioters. The facts didn't matter. Now, it seems that Mosby may pay a price for those actions. A prosecutor still has to follow the law, no matter who is marching or rioting nearby.
It will be interesting to see what comes out in discovery. This matter is not going away.
