World Peace or World In Pieces?

Two stories in the news today have me wondering about all those liberals who have been telling us about world peace for years.

The first item is the attack in Jerusalem in which a Palestinian in a big truck ran down a group of Israeli soldiers who had just gotten off of a bus.  This heinous act is terrorism and murder.  It is also too commonplace around the world these days.  Indeed, I keep waiting for some to start calling for "common sense truck control laws".  The point of the attack, however, for me comes when one contrasts it to the recent UN resolution passed with help from president Obama that basically says that the presence of Israelis in the area of Jerusalem where the attack took place violates international law.  The UN resolution is, of course, a ridiculous travesty, but Obama and Kerry supported it wholeheartedly.  The government of the USA actually pushed a resolution finding that the presence Jews in an area is illegal.  Think about it.  The anti-Israel left calls Israel an "apartheid" state, but they are the ones pushing for keeping all Jews out of an area.

Now I know that the USA did not vote for the resolution but merely abstained.  Surely, I will get emails from people who tell me that.  Remember, however, that the resolution was withdrawn by Egypt on one day and was only placed on the agenda again the next day after the USA let it be known that this was the desired result and America would abstain so the resolution could pass.

The second news item is the bizarre response to the comments of Donald Trump regarding Russia and the report on hacking.  Basically, much of the mainstream media is proclaiming that Trump is not "condemning" the Russians.  For the last eight years, we have watched as China hacked the US government and stole the personal information of all government employees, North Korea hacked into Sony and destroyed part of the records of that company, China hacked into various American companies and stole intellectual property and other secrets, and Russia did much the same.  Nothing was done in response.  Even when the DNC was hacked last spring, nothing was done in response.  Now that the Democrats lost, they are going berserk trying to blame the Russians for the loss.  Their house organs (the mainstream media) now seems to want to try to provoke a fight with Russia as a result.  For his part, Trump says that anyone who opposes good relations with Russia is stupid.  That's not an endorsement of Putin and his government; it's a simple statement that there ought to be peace with Russia.

For as long as I can recall, the far left has always talked about world peace.  Now it seems that same group is moving instead to calling for a world in pieces.
