The latest updates from NOAA with regard to the likely track of Hurricane Irma contains a glimmer of hope for Miami and the other cities on the southeastern Florida coast. The latest track shows the hurricane hitting a bit further to the west than earlier predicted. This has led NOAA to indicate that the likelihood of hurricane force winds in the Miami area is just 30 to 50%. That's pretty bad, but it's much better than earlier. Remember hurricane force winds are just those in excess of 75 miles per hour. The worst of the hurricane (150 mph) winds will come in over the Everglades on the currently projected track.
There will still be huge waves hitting Miami, but the storm surge that comes with the eye and the area right around it will not hit Miami if the latest track is correct. Let's pray that NOAA got this one right.
