Will Debbie Be Doing Time?

Today we learned that one of those Pakastani "IT staffers" from Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office is returning to the USA from Pakistan to face charges.  That's a rather bizarre move by this woman.  She could have stayed in Pakistan outside the reach of the US government.  Indeed, if things are as suspected and she is part of a ring that stole sensitive information off the congressional computer systems and then sold it, then the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI would have protected her from any danger from the US government.  So why is she coming back to face charges?

There really is only one likely answer:  her husband is already under arrest here, and she has most likely made a deal with the Justice Department to testify against others in exchange for leniency - or even possibly immunity - for herself and her husband.  What does she know?  Who can she implicate?  The most likely target of the DOJ is Congressman Wasserman Schultz herself.  After all, when word of the possible illegal conduct by the various IT people was given to the congressional offices that employed them, every congressman involved fired these employees and removed their ability to gain access to the congressional computer systems.  Actually, it was every congressman except one:  Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  The former chair of the DNC actually kept these people on the payroll and did not end their ability to access the congressional computer network.  Indeed, when law enforcement asked for access to Wasserman Schultz's computers to look for evidence of criminal wrongdoing, she fought them tooth and nail.  Her stated reason was that she was fighting against Islamophobia, but even Debbie Wasserman Schultz cannot believe that investigating criminal activity with heavy national security overtones is bias just because the suspected perpetrators are Muslim.  It really seems like it ought to be more.

It would be truly amazing if the end of this story is that Wasserman Schultz ends up indicted.

To be clear, I have no proof that Wasserman Schultz did anything criminal.  Based upon normal human behavior, however, I do have some rather strong suspicions.  Time will tell.
