There's a rather hilarious article at Vox today that asks the question why Democrats have no foreign policy ideas. The question itself is not funny; rather, it's the answer that is the real scream. Vox concludes that the reason for the dearth of any serious Democrat foreign policy is that there aren't enough think tanks focused on the problem. No, seriously, the lack of any meaningful foreign policy ideas from Democrats is due to there not being enough pundit/lobbyist think tankers in DC.
Think about that for a moment. At this point, it seems like two out of three people who live in or near our nation's capital are pundits or lobbyists or supposedly non-partisan workers at a think tank. But Vox thinks we don't have enough of these people.
Let's look at an example: Syria. When the Syrian civil war started years ago, president Obama did nothing. He had the State Department, the Defense Department, the CIA, the NSA and other agencies to come up with possible responses, and they all did just that. At that point, Obama just could not bring himself to make a decision, so he did nothing. Vox, however, is now telling us that if only there had been another ten think tanks Obama would have been able to choice a course of action. Unbelieveable!
