In a funny turn of events, Democratic Dan Malloy is calling on Democrat Ned Lamont to engage in debates around the state as part of the primary campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Malloy is the endorsed party candidate, but Lamont leads in the polls. Malloy is using Lamont's own endorsement of debates from the Lamont - Lieberman senate primary to try to embarrass Lamont into debating.
Good luck. The first thing Malloy needs to learn about Lamont is not to believe anything that the man says. Lamont is someone who is out only to win. If he is ahead, there will not be a schedule of debates; there may be one right before the primary, but that is all. Lest anyone feel bad for poor Dan Malloy, there is no need. He too is someone who would take advantage of any possibility that would help his candidacy without regard to morality or propriety. Indeed, Malloy and Lamont are both losers at the state level (Malloy repeatedly). they are each desperate to win this time.
My guess is that Lamont will triumph in the primary and then lose to Republican Tom Foley in November. After all, at some point the people of Connecticut will begin to pay attention to the race. That will be the death knell for Lamont's cnadidacy in my opinion.
