Today, Rasmussen came out with its weekly poll on the generic congressional question. Voters were asked if they would vote for a Democrat or a Republican for Congress. The results were 48 to 36 in favor of the Republicans. These are extraordinary numbers. Indeed, the lead for the Republicans is their biggest in the history of this poll. Amazingly, the actual election results tend to be better for the GOP than the poll results. couple this with the higher level of enthusiasm shown by Republican voters this year and the poll results translate into a blowout election. If these numbers are correct, Republicans will take both the House and the Senate. Democrats could lose 70 seats in the House or maybe even more.
My guess is that the poll is an fluke that overstates the Republican's prospects. The truth is, however, that nearly every poll of the sort shows a reasonable lead for the GOP as of today. Barring a major game changer in the next two months, it looks like Obama and the obamacrats have managed to alienate a large majority of the American people in two short years of mismanagement of the country.
