After reviewing the jobs program put forth by Republican Mike Fedele, there is no question that it is complete, thoughtful and innovative. It gives specifics unlike the plan from Ned Lamont. It addresses the issue of business taxes which currently makes connecticut so unfriendly to business. Indeed, some of the proposals for business taxes are clearly the result of thinking outside the box. For example, Fedele proposes that businesses that earn tax credits for investing in and creating jobs in Connecticut should be able to sell these credits to other firms if they do not have the income against which to use the credits. Fedele's reasoning is that firms that may take longer to generate profits should still be encouraged to innovate, invest and hire here in the state, and allowing the sale of the credits will be a major help in that regard. It is a great idea.
On the issue of regulations, Fedele proposes a two year freeze on new regulations. This is not enough in my opinion. The problem is not new regulations, but the current ones. For example, new construction of industrial facilities must be reviewed by countless different state and local agencies, many of which have conflicting requirements. The amount of effort that goes into compliance make the cost of doing business in Connecticut much higher than it should be.
On balance, Fedele has put forth a fine plan for creating jobs in the state.
Indeed, after reviewing the plans of the four major gubernatorial candidates, I have to conclude that there is a clear difference between the plans of the Democrats and those of the Republicans. Clearly, the worst plan (if you can call it that, comes from Ned Lamont. Dan malloy is light years ahead of Lamont, but his plans do not come close to the ones from Foley or Fedele.
It is a worthwhile effort for each voter to read these plans. It may take a bit of time, but the decision in November is important enough that the investment of a half of an hour is well worth it. Without a doubt, these plans should convince every voter to vote Republican in November.
