A new low
The Connecticut legislature today overrode the veto of Governor Jodi Rell with regard to increasing the funds to be given to candidates under the state public election financing law. Rell vetoed the bill saying that it was inappropriate to change the rules in the middle of an election campaign. That, however, did not stop the Democrats in Hartford. They voted en masse to override and they have to votes to do that. As a result, the only candidate for major office to receive extra funds will be Dan Malloy, the Democrat. Tom Foley, the Republican had already opted out of the system. Now Malloy will get an additional $3 million of public funds. Is it realistic to believe that a candidate who would go along with the Democrats looting the state treasury like this will do anything to get spending under control once in office? I think not.
