So where are they?

This past week we have seen countless people come forward to celebrate the decision in California calling gay marriage a constitutional right as a great milestone in the civil rights struggle. Today, however, comes further news out of Iran that that country will shortly execute and 18 year old man for sodomy even though his accuser has recanted his testimony. So a young man is being executed on the charge that he is gay even though the accusing witness now admits he was not telling the truth. Where are all the "human rights" activists? Why do we hear nothing about this? Indeed, why do we never hear anything from these same people about the opression of women in Iran and other shariya compliant countries? The simple truth is that such a protest does not fit in with the blame America first narrative that seems to have overtaken these groups. Indeed, where is the statement from the Obama administration condemning this atrocity in Iran? Are we worried that we might hurt the feelings of Achmanutjob? Will it damage our "successful" push for negotiations with no preconditions? why are we silent?

Perhaps the true lesson here is that there are indeed folks who campaign for human rights. but then, there are also many more folks who pretend to care about human rights but are just looking for political gain. Everyone needs to be aware of the distinction.
