Must ideology defeat reason -- 2

Earlier today, I wrote about the problems that would be cause if President Obama and the Democrats allow ideology rather than reality guide the tax policy of the US. In short, by raising taxes on the wealthy, those who will suffer most directly will be the middle class and poor who will be denied the jobs that would have been created by the wealthy with the extra money taken from them. Small business , the main engine of growth for the economy will be hard hit by these tax increases with terrible consequences for those hoping to get a job. While I lamented the failure of the Obamacrats to look at reality rather than their ideology, a concrete example of this has not appeared. On the liberal blog Salon.com, Andrew Leonard considers how Obama ought respond to the calls for continuing tax rates at their present levels. According to Leonard: "Here's what the President should do (and appears to be doing): Make this about fairness.

Not only did the wealthiest Americans benefit the most from the anything goes Wall Street boom years, but they paid the smallest price for the economic collapse. While millions of Americans lost their jobs and their homes, they sailed right through. By calling for the repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, Obama is putting down a political marker, and declaring that the rich must pay their fair share of the burden. Here's a message anyone can understand: I'm going to raise taxes on the rich and spend money directly creating jobs through infrastructure investments. With an election looming, that simple declaration tells the Democratic base whose side the President is on. It's a direct invitation to a fight to voters who are spoiling for a tussle."

So there you have it: the recommendation is to make the election into one about class warfare. Nothing is said of the impact that the tax increase will have on the economy and the creation of new jobs. Nothing is said about the harm that will be done to the small business community which is already hesitant about creating new jobs that bring with them all of the healthcare and other government mandated costs. No, the libs want to just villify the evil rich who prospered while others did not.

America did not achieve greatness through jealousy of those who succeeded. America achieved greatness by giving everyone the ability to try for success. Obama and the libs want to throw that away. they want to achieve fairness not bybringing up the poor towards the rich, but by bringing down the rich towards the poor. Social justice is just another word for economic suicide.
