Who is right?

I just read two articles: one by Peggy Noonan and the other by Bob Shrum. Noonan is talking about the splintering of the Democrats and the impending Republican rout. Shrum is talking about the re-energization of the Democrat base and how the Democrats will hold both houses of Congress. One thing is certain, they cannot both be correct.

While I am certainly rooting for Noonan to be correct, I think that a logical look at the current political situation makes clear that she probably is. Shrum says that blacks and Hispanics are becomming more active and likely to vote and that this will save the Democrats. I don't think so; the only movement in these groups comes from pollsters who adjust their models. Shrum says that Toomey in Pennsylvania is losing his electorate, but the polls do not reflect this. Shrum does not mention states like Connecticut or West Virginia where seats that were thought to be safe for the Democrats only weeks ago are now either toss ups or leaning Republican. Perhaps the clearest indication of the worth of Shrum's opinions come when he categorizes the Republicans as the party of no. He repeats the canard that the Republicans have no ideas. While the mainstream media carry this charge that the Democrats have been leveling for over a year, there are few other than the true believers who accept it. Most Americans realize that the Democrats have had overwhelming majorities in Congress and have passed their agendas without much problem. Indeed, that has been their prinicpal problem. The Democrats got what they wanted and disaster is what the country got. Obamacare is law and, as a result, premiums for health insurance are soaring, policies are being lost in many places and the healthcare costs continue to rise without even slowing. The stimulus was passed and all we got was the economy that Democrats said would result if the bill were not passed. Oh, but we also have an additional 800 billion dollars of debt to pay off.
Meanwhile, the Republicans have come forward with their Pledge which specifies what they propose to do in office. In other words, Americans know that this party of no mantra is just another losing talking point dreamed up at a White House that thinks that telling another lie is the answer to real problems. They believe that saying something that is untrue will convince people to believe the lie rather than to see the truth. Fortunately for the country, the days when the liberals controlled essentially all media are over. Now the truth gets out, and when it does, the Democrats look like the liars that they are.

Noonan is correct. A Republican rout is coming.
