A Travesty?

According to the headline on the New York Daily News today, the verdict in the Zimmerman case is a "Travesty".  Really?  Apparently, no one at the Daily News bothered to watch the trial as it unfolded.  The actual truth is that from a legal perspective, any verdict other than not guilty would have been a travesty that was based upon emotions rather than the evidence presented in court.

Let's repeat this one more time.  Under the law, Zimmerman could not be found guilty unless the Jury determined beyond any reasonable doubt that he did not shoot Martin due to a fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury.  Since it was proven pretty clearly that Martin was on top of Zimmerman banging his head into the pavement (and the injuries supported that), how could anyone be sure that Zimmerman was not afraid that he would be killed or seriously injured?  There is just no way that the prosecution could win.

The only "travesty" here is the headline in the Daily News that substitutes race for the law.
