Scary or Not -- You Decide

There is an article in yesterday's Globe and Mail lamenting the fact that the American and Chinese military establishments are preparing plans for war with each other.  Doug Saunders, the reporter, states that relations between the two countries are improving but the Pentagon and the People's Liberation Army are getting ready to fight each other.

I do not doubt for a second that the Pentagon is preparing plans for war with China.  That's the job of the Pentagon.  My guess is that there is plan for war with Canada filed somewhere in the Pentagon and that the plan gets updated periodically.  There must also be plans for war with the UK or France.  We probably also have a plan to take Montevideo in Uruguay.  The Pentagon prepares contingency plans for everything.  It is no big deal that the Pentagon is updating its plan for war with China, and make no mistake about it, any new plan is updating an old one and not creating the first ever American war plan to deal with the Chinese.

The hysterical report by the Globe and Mail lamenting the drift towards war by China and the USA is yet another instance of the media pushing a storyline more out of ignorance than intelligence.  The story is an insult to the intelligence of the reader.
