More Polls = More Trouble

The latest Marist poll is out in the McClatchy papers.  In this poll the ratings for president Obama are down to only 41% favorable.  Those are the sort of ratings that make presidents irrelevant.  Even worse for Obama are his poll numbers on handling the economy where only 37% approved and 56% disapproved.  It seems that Obama's lack of a plan to improve the economy is finally breaking through into the minds of the American people.

Right now, Obama is on the edge of a cliff.  If his approval numbers go down into the 30's, there will be many Democrats who will start running away from supporting him.  Remember, the congressional elections are coming next year.  Indeed, while six months ago, the Democrats talked of taking the House, now they talk instead about hoping that they can hold on to the Senate.  Events could change that momentum back to favor the Democrats, but clearly that is not the current direction of the movement.  Any further collapse in Obama's poll numbers will start a stampede to put candidates far away from Obama.
