Can This Be True?

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman wrote a piece about the American response to events in Egypt and I agree with him in part.  Can this possibly be true?  Has Friedman actually said something sensible?  It is a mind boggling event.

Here is Friedman's topic sentence for the column: 

Rather than punishing Egyptians for desperately trying to change course before they go over a cliff, America should use its aid and influence with the army to get the most out of this crisis.

Amazing!  Friedman got it right!  Of course, after that sentence, Friedman went off into a whole list of specifics with which any reasonable person would likely disagree, but at least for once, his heart was in the right place.
