I have now seen at least seven stories on whether or not Secretary of State John Kerry was on his wife's yacht sailing while the Egyptian military took down former president Morsi in Cairo. Now, it is true that the State Department first denied that Kerry was sailing and then reversed itself to confirm that he was totally at sea when the issue arose, but so what! When did the Secretary of State have to be on land when a surprise development occurs overseas?
Look, John Kerry is dumb as a post. He is naïve and self-important, always a dangerous combination. He has problems with the truth as was demonstrated with his lying about his Vietnam service during his run for president. His singular talent seems to be marrying wealthy women. But he is allowed to take a break on the Fourth of July weekend. He is allowed to sail on his...err, his wife's yacht when he wants. What happened in Egypt was not planned by the USA, so why must Kerry be in Washington when it happens.
Let's cut Kerry some slack. After all, his sailing is a good thing. If he is out of Washington, it is less likely that his advice will make a difference with regard to the course chosen by president Obama (assuming that Obama actually makes a decision, but that's a different story.)
