The "Phony Let's Change the Subject" Tour

Many rock groups give names to their tours around the country.  Since President Obama is about to embark on a national tour to discuss the economy and helping the middle class, I thought he should give that tour a name as well.  My choice is this:  the Phony Let's Change the Subject Tour.

Just think about it.  How many times during the last five years has Obama embarked upon a new focus on the economy and jobs?  I wrote about some of these so called "pivots" to jobs In March of 2010, June of 2011, September of 2011, January of 2012 and in May of 2013.  That's five previous times that Obama turned to focus like a laser on the economy.  And I did not write about each time he did that.  This current tour is something like the eighth time in the last five years that Obama has announced a refocusing on the economy and jobs.

So what do all these Obama tours to focus on jobs and the economy have in common?

1.  In all these tours, Obama has never bothered to put forth any plan to grow the economy now.

2.  In all of the these tours, the goal was not to fix the economy, but rather to change the subject away from something that was hurting Obama's standing with the public.

Let's discuss the lack of plans first.  Right now, Obama has no plan for growth.  Oh, he has a few platitudes that he throws out in his speeches like universal pre-school and increased infrastructure construction.  No sane person believes that educating four year olds will change our economy any time soon.  As for infrastructure, despite talking about it for four years, Obama has yet to tell America what infrastructure he wants to build, where it would be located or how he would pay for it.  That's four years of talk with NO details.  Clearly, Obama is not serious about this.

As for changing the subject, the latest tour is actually up front about that purpose.  Jay Carney said yesterday that the purpose of the tour was to take the focus off of what he called "phony scandals" and to put it back on the economy.  Phony scandals??  Really?  Just as soon as word comes out that Obama met with the Chief Counsel of the IRS two days before the Chief Counsel set in motion the process of persecuting Tea Party and Conservative groups and individuals by the IRS, suddenly Obama wants to change the subject.  Enough said!
