Obama's Korean Problem

A few months ago, the North Korean navy torpedoes and sank a South Korean naval ship with serious loss of life. The South Korean ship was in South Korean territorial waters and was not threatening anyone. The attack and sinking was perpetrated by the North Koreans without warning. Since then, forensic proof was offered to show that the attack came from the NK's. While the US and the South Koreans have held military exercises, no military action has been taken against the NK's for their dastardly attack. No meaningful sanctions have been imposed on the NK's. Obama has just let the matter pass without any true response.

While Obama has frequently failed to respond to provocation around the world, his inaction in the face of this aggression has been truly surprising. by letting the NK's attack and kill at will with no meaningful response, Obama is encouraging more attacks. After all, why not attack the South if there will be no consequence. Indeed, why not rub the noses of the US and South Korea in the dirt if there will be no response.

Hopefully, the crazy NK leadership will focus on something other than continued attacks. However, reliance upon the poor judgment of an adversary is not a good way to conduct foreign policy. Obama needs to decide why US troop remain stationed in Korea. They cannot be just left in harms way if we do not plan on defending them from attack.
