The living talking point of the Obama administration's media team, Eugene Robinson has now come out with his verdict on American Democracy, what Abraham Lincoln called "government of the people, by the people and for the people." the principal idea behind that democracy is to trust the people. "We the people" is the start of the constitution for a reason; the control of the USA rests with the people, not the government. So what is Robinson's verdict on democracy?
"In the punditry business, it's considered bad form to question the essential wisdom of the American people. But at this point, it's impossible to ignore the obvious: The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats."
And why are they spoiled brats? Simple, the American people are going to vote for the Republicans over the Democrats.
Robinson cares nothing for the will of the people. He cares nothing for the views of the majority. He cares nothing for the idea that those in government are the servants of the people. No! Those in government must be obeyed by the people, and if the people chose something else, they are spoiled children.
This attitude is not unusual on the left these days. Nor is it new. When the people ended 40 years of Democratic control of Congress in 1994, a whole group in the media labelled it a temper tantrum. It was not a change in direction made by the wisdom of the people; it was a temper tantrum. The media never respects the choices of the American people unless they make the choice that the media prefers. Republican victories are temper tantrum, while victories by Democrats are historic or thoughtful. Opposition to placing a mosque at ground zero is bigoted or xenophobic while support for the same mosque is reasonable and principled. Even the review of something like Glenn Beck's recent rally shows the disdain for the people that comes from the left. Half a million people come together peacefully to honor America's armed forces, to praise God and to support American values. there is no violence, not even any voices raisd in anger, but how is it described in much of the media? It is a "pit of hatred", a "seething cauldron".
Robinson and his fellow travelers have gotten away for too long with purveying their extreme views as the mainstream. We are indeed lucky that the rise of new media has removed their influence and forced them to reveal their true nature. Angered that they no longer control the narrative, these folks, the true "pit of hatred" have shown us all what the actually think of the American people. The view is quite astonishing.
