The Guardian is reporting an interview with Julian Assange of Wikileaks fame. Assange says that his organization is about to release a batch of new emails sent and received by Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state. The emails were not included in the 30,000 or so that were finally turned over to the State Department by Clinton over two years after she left office. According to Hillary Clinton, she turned over all work-related email on her server. If Wikileaks comes up with hundreds or thousands more emails in that category, it means that once again Hillary Clinton lied about her emails.
If Assange follows through on his statement, however, it will mean more than just another lie by Hillary Clinton. After all, it's hard to get too worked up about Hillary Clinton telling lies. There's just not enough hours in the day for that. No, if Assange has more work related emails sent and received by Clinton, then it means (1) someone hacked Hillary's email server to get these emails, and (2) Hillary violated the federal law that required her to turn over all work related documents. If Wikileaks got the documents as a result of a hack, then all those stories about there being no proof of any hacking will collapse. Hillary will have put secret national security information on her unsecured server and it will have been taken by hackers. That is a federal crime. (Are you listening FBI?) Further, if Hillary kept back emails from the batch she turned over, that is a violation of the Federal Records act. (Again, are you listening, FBI?)
It is, of course, possible that Julian Assange is not telling the truth. That would not be surprising. Nevertheless, if Assange and Wikileaks follow through with this threat, it will mean big, big trouble for Hillary Clinton.
