Hillary Clinton said this morning that she would be willing to use the words "radical Islamism" but that she would not demonize an entire religion. Has it come to that? How can we actually be debating whether or not the Orlando terrorist massacre was radical Islamic terrorism or something else. The killer was a Moslem who told authorities on the phone during the attack that he was doing this in the name of ISIS. You don't get much more of radical Islamic terrorism than that. Now Hillary is caving to the pressure of trying to deny reality and she has told CNN that would would be willing to us those words. Hillary also told CNN that it is much more important what we do than what we say.
I want to stop here for a moment. This is literally the first time that any Democrat has actually said that it is much more important what we do than what we say. It took 50 dead, scores wounded and the presidential campaign to get that admission. For the last eight years, we have been governed by a president who actually believes that it is what he says more than what he does that matters. Hillary has avoided contradicting that Obama view until today.
So, Hillary says it is what we do that is important. In fairness, that leads to the inevitable question for Mrs. Clinton: "what do you propose America do to stop attacks like this?" Hillary's answer is to continue doing what we have been doing. She doesn't want to change Obama's policies regarding ISIS and the terrorists.
It's worth taking another step back at this point. We were attacked on 9-11 at a point when no one was focused on terrorism. After that attack, president Bush focused his energy on making sure that we were not attacked here at home again. During the next seven and a half years, the Bush administration kept us safe from terrorist attack here at home. Then came Obama. In the last seven and a half years under Obama, America has been repeatedly attacked by Islamic terrorists. We had the San Bernardino ISIS attack. We had the bombing at the Boston Marathon and the shootings that followed. We had the Fort Hood massacre in which 13 soldiers were shot dead. We had other shootings and stabbings. It all culminated with the Orlando massacre which pushed the envelope further on mass casualties than ever before. In short, Obama's policies have not kept us safe. It is those same failed policies that Hillary Clinton says she wants to continue.
Hillary knows that her position will not gain the support of people who carefully ponder what we need to do next. Given a choice of continuing a failed policy as Hillary proposes or trying something else, few would select the path that just leads to more terrorist attacks and more American dead and wounded. That is why Hillary throws in her broadside about not "demonizing and entire religion." Hillary is going back to the defense of being politically correct. See, in Hillary's world it's enough to win an argument on policy if you call the opposing policy "racist" or "discriminatory". America cannot focus on Islamic terror because that would demonize all Moslems.
Let's take another moment and consider how well that position has been working. Omar Mateen, the terrorist who carried out the Orlando attack, was reported to his employer for constantly making racist and homophobic slurs and for threatening to kill people. Since Mateen worked for a security company and carried a weapon in that job, that report should have greatly concerned the employer. Nevertheless, since Mateen was a Moslem and since the employer did not want to demonize an entire religion, nothing was done. Mateen was not reported to authorities (which might have prevented him from getting weapons.) Mateen was not removed from a position for which he carried a weapon. No, Mateen just went on to kill 50 Americans and wound scores more. I wonder if the families of the dead take solace from knowing that Mateen's employer followed Hillary's plan not to demonize and entire religion.
Then there's the couple of ISIS terrorists who killed 14 in San Bernardino. Their neighbors told investigators after the attack that there had been suspicious late night activities at the couple's home. The neighbors did not report the suspicious activity to the police, however, because they did not want to "profile" the terrorists. The slogan "See Something, Say Something" was modified by the political correctness being pushed by Hillary Clinton into "See Something, Say Something (unless it's about Moslems)". Again, I wonder how many of the families of the dead take solace from the fact that the attack that killed their loved ones might have been prevented if the neighbors weren't worried about being politically incorrect.
So Hillary says that what we do is most important and then she advises continuing on the present course while making sure that we stay politically correct. It's a recipe for further disasters. It also shows why Hillary ought never be president.
