It's not easy being in the minority party in the House. Unlike in the Senate, everything in the House aside from overturning a veto is governed by majority vote. That means that the majority party pretty much calls all the shots. That's why today it is a big deal for the media that a few House Democrats have finally done something. They sat on the floor for a short time. This move was supposed to be a sit-in like those of decades ago. Instead of peaceful protest, however, this one came across more as an embarrassment than an effective protest.
Consider this: this group of House Democrats is trying to shut down the government. If Republicans had done the same thing, there would be non-stop condemnation from the media. Instead, all we get is hymns of praise for these "brave" people who are trying to get their way without a majority. In fairness, there's nothing brave about what they have done. Okay, for some of the heavier people in the group that is sitting in, maybe it was brave to sit on the floor. Will they ever be able to get up again? One never knows.
It's sad that we're back to government operating like a theater. It's all for show rather than to actually accomplish anything for the American people.
