Which Way Will the UK Vote

Today is the British Brexit referendum.  Although the bookies are giving odds that the Brits will vote to stay in the European Union, the pre-election polling makes clear that the vote could easily go either way.

I have to admit that I'm hoping that the Brits vote to leave the EU.  It's the only way that the UK can continue to govern itself in a meaningful way.  Sure, when the EU was just the common market, there was a good rationale for the UK joining a group that had free trade among its members.  Now, however, when the Brussels bureaucrats keep imposing more and more rules on the member states, the ability of the Brits to decide their own fate is quickly disappearing.  Relationships between the UK and member countries of the British Commonwealth are not governed by London but, for the most part, by unelected staffers in Brussels.  It seems inconceivable that for a country like Canada where Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, the relationship with England is governed by the EU.

I won't pretend to know all the details that affect the Brexit decision.  I do know, however, that it is worth a lot to the world to preserve British democratic traditions.
