Who Are We?

President Obama keeps talking about various proposals regarding dealing with ISIS by saying "that's not who we are."  It made me wonder whether or not he understands who we are.  Here's a short list that may help.  Consider these things:

1.  Women are kept and sold as sex slaves.
2.  Gay sex is punishable by death.
3.  Anyone who insults the dominant religion is put to death.
4.  A woman who is raped can be put to death to preserve the honor of her family.
5.  Adulterers are subject to being stoned to death.
6.  Those who convert to another religion are labeled "apostates" for which the sentence is death.
7.  Those who follow a variant or sect of the dominant religion are heretics and subject to death.
8.  Those who follow religions other than the dominant religion have few rights and must pay special taxes which the majority do not pay.
9.  Women can be put to death for wearing immodest clothing (which consists of anything that allows the woman's face or body to be seen.)
10.  Women are not allowed to drive or leave the house without an escort by a male family member.

These are things that apply to the Moslem fundamentalist countries.  These are things about which an American president could validly say, "that's not who we are."  Indeed, the listed items and more are who the radical Islamic terrorists are.

But what of these things:

1.  Protecting the people of the country by denying entry to those who cannot reasonably be verified as being non-terrorists.
2.  Continuing to hold enemy combatants captured in battle during the ongoing war against the terrorists.
3.  Identifying just who it is that has been attacking America and Americans.
4.  Speaking honestly to the American people about what has been happening and what policy ought to be followed to prevent further terrorist acts.

These are the things that Obama usually mentions and then says "that's not who we are."  For Obama it's wrong to err on the side of safety when it comes to admitting potential terrorists.  For Obama it's wrong to operate a secure facility in Guantanamo to keep dangerous terrorists locked up.  For Obama, it's wrong to mention that our enemy consists of Islamic terrorists.  For Obama, it's wrong to discuss many of the steps that need to be taken to protect the USA and the West.  Indeed, it's not just wrong according to Obama; it's un-American.

I don't think Obama has a clue what the American people really think.  He's fine with obscuring the true nature of our enemy.  (Think:  when was the last time you heard Obama speak at length about the horrors of what ISIS and the other Islamic terrorists have been doing to their own people?)  Obama just cannot stand it when others point out his incompetent and irresponsible behavior, so he wraps himself in "who we are."
