Jim Himes is my Congressman. That's my embarrassment of the day. Yesterday, Himes and some others decided to disrupt a memorial being held on the floor of the House in memory of those killed in Orlando. He called the moment of silence that was being observed "smug" and "incompetent". Himes, you see, wanted to score political points for his support for gun control. He wanted the House to vote immediately on a bill that would limit guns in some way that wouldn't have stopped the Orlando terrorist attack. Himes knows that, but it doesn't matter to him. Yesterday was his chance to make it into the national media with his obnoxious display of poor taste and discourtesy to the dead and their families.
Let's be clear: it doesn't matter what one's cause; there is nothing good or honorable in disrupting a memorial service for innocent victims like those from Orlando.
Next November, everyone in my district needs to remember what Himes did yesterday. Election day ought to be a memorial service for Himes' career in politics. Himes has got to go. He is a disgrace.
