There's been a horrible terrorist attack by an Islamic terrorist in Orlando. The shooter swore allegiance to ISIS according to various officials. Every politician in Washington is now chiming in with his or her view. I have to say that I am revolted by the statements that have been made. Large numbers of Democrats are talking about the need for gun control even though the terrorist had a permit for his weapons and had gone through all the federal background checks and other control measures before obtaining the weapons. If anything, the attack was proof that gun control does not work.
But that's not the worst of it. Here are excerpts from the Democrats who lead the Senate and the House (Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi).
REID: "This was a senseless, hateful attack on innocent people, and we must do everything possible to ensure that justice is done. That this act of hate occurred at an LGBT mainstay during LGBT Pride Month makes it all the more horrific. Hatred, terror and bigotry have no place in our country, and we will not allow our nation to be ruled by fear."
PELOSI: "Our hearts ache for all those killed in this senseless attack, and we pray for the swift recovery of all those who were wounded. While many questions have yet to be answered, the pain of this attack in a mainstay of the Orlando LGBT community is surely magnified as our nation celebrates LGBT Pride month. We will not allow hate and terror to succeed in blinding us with fear."
I highlighted a few of the main words. These words make clear that the Reid and Pelosi statements were following agreed Democrat talking points. They don't mention Islamic terrorism. They don't mention ISIS. They focus on LGBT Pride Month. Really? ISIS attacks innocent people in Orlando and the Democrats focus on how the attack affects LGBT Pride Month? Are they kidding?
Just for once, wouldn't it be refreshing to hear a real reaction from people in Washington? Just imagine how many people would cheer if Reid were to say something like "the scum who attacked these innocent people will not be allowed to succeed. We're going to wipe out those sons of bitches." It wouldn't even identify the terrorist as Islamic, but at least it would be a big move towards reality.
Let me assure all those Democrats in Washington: the families of the victims in Orlando don't give a care about LGBT Pride Month at the moment. Neither do the Americans who understand that this was an ISIS attack in Florida. It's time to stop the doubletalk and actually do something meaningful about ISIS.
