In a new low for TV journalism, Joy Reid on her show AM Joy on MSNBC this morning had congressman Ted Lieu as a guest. Lieu is a Democrat from California who seems to have taken leave of his senses. The "highlight" of the interview came when Lieu stated that the tweet from President Trump this morning about Jim Comey's leaking information "could be" obstruction of justice.
You really cannot make this stuff up.
Here's what Trump said on Twitter:
"I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible. Totally illegal? Very "cowardly"!
Remember, Comey is no longer the FBI Director. He is no longer investigating anything, so Trump can't be interfering in an investigation. Comey has also testified in detail about his communications with the President. Nothing is being stopped, hampered or interfered with. In short, there is no obstruction.
So why would a congressman, even one a stridently partisan as Ted Lieu, say something so clearly false to Joy Reid? There's two reasons: first, he wants to fire up the Democrat base with more phony claims. Second, Lieu knows that Reid has the intelligence of a stone and would be unlikely to take issue with his characterization of the tweet. He also knows that Reid is a vehemently anti-Trump as he is. So we have the two of them reduced to speculating about this tweet as obstruction of justice since the rest of the claims on that subject have now collapsed.
They need to stop, though. It's beyond funny. It's beyond bizarre. It's beyond demented. It's now just approaching pure evil.
