We got another of those famous Clinton evasions today on ABC when Hillary Clinton had this interchange with George Strphanopoulos about the FBI investigation:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Have you had any contact yet with the FBI, you or your agents, over this matter?
CLINTON: I — I have not been asked to come in for an interview. I’ve said I am more than willing since last August and I would like to do that sooner instead of later and get this matter wrapped up and behind us.
It's important to keep in mind that Stephanopoulos asked only if Hillary or her agents (meaning her attorneys) had been contacted by the FBI about being interviewed. Hillary doesn't say "no" which is what most people would say if there had been no contact. Instead we hear she hasn't been asked to come in for an interview. In other words, if the FBI asked Clinton's lawyers for a schedule of days on which she would be available for an interview, Hillary's answer is still correct. If the FBI told Clinton that they are going to interview one more of her staff and that she is next on the list, Hillary didn't tell us. In short, what Hillary did is to use a classic Clinton ploy. She did not answer the question but instead answered something that would be just a piece of the question. She picked out the part she can answer without causing herself problems. In other words, it's a dodge.
Watching Hillary Clinton evade answering questions is nothing new. America has seen this go on for years and years. I do, however, have an important question about this. We all know that Stephanopoulos is a long-time Clinton supporter and former aide to Bill Clinton. Did he arrange in advance the question that he was going to ask on this point so that Hillary could prepare her non-response response? It certainly wouldn't surprise me to learn that.
