The big "news" of the last few days in the presidential campaign has been the series of reports about chaos in Republican ranks because of worry that Donald Trump might be "bringing back racial politics". That's the formulation of the New York Times. This all stems from Trump's comments about supposed bias of the judge in the Trump University case. I don't know enough about what the judge has done in that case to have a fair view as to whether or not he is biased. I do know, however, that it is ridiculous for the liberal media and the Democrats to talk about bringing back racial politics. The truth is that racial politics is the basis the campaign of every Democrat across America.
Consider this: in 2012, president Obama beat Mitt Romney by roughly 3% in the popular vote. Americans were very closely divided. Among blacks, Obama won by roughly 95% to 5%. That means that among non-black voters, Romney won. There is no reason why blacks backed Obama to such a great extent except for one thing: Obama's race. That's racial politics for certain.
Consider this: in the race for the nomination this year, Hillary Clinton has spent day after day wooing black voters with a much greater effort than Bernie Sanders. Clinton has swept the black primary vote; indeed she has won those states with large black voting blocks. Racial politics once again.
Consider this: in the normal Democrat attack on any Republican, voters are told that the GOP candidate is a racist (as well as a sexist, homophobe, etc.). Calling someone a racist, especially when there is no basis for the charge, is pure racial politics. So racial politics is not just a page in the Democrats' playbook; it's an entire chapter.
The weird thing is that the current broadside from the Democrats and their media allies against Trump is also racial politics. I know that; you know that; the Democrats know that.
So let's keep two issues separate. Should Trump criticize the judge in his Trump University case? Maybe, that depends on the facts. Is Trump bringing back racial politics? Don't be ridiculous; racial politics is the standard among Democrats.
