Burying the Lead

Which seems more important to you?
1) President Obama issues an executive order which allows 800,000 illegal aliens to stay in the country, get working papers, and be free of the threat of deportation; or
2) A reporter for an internet news source interrupts Obama to ask a question at a White House press event?

If you said 2), then you agree with most of the main stream media. During Obama's announcement yesterday that he was changing the rules regarding illegal aliens, a reporter from a site named the Daily Caller yelled out a question before Obama was done speaking. Many news organizations made that the important part of the story. On MSNBC, they even had a lengthy discussion as to whether or not the interruption by the reporter was a sign of racism. Poor Obama, he was a victim of a rude reporter, and the main stream liberal press can never let a victim story pass by, even if there is a monumental shift in immigration enforcement rules.

Clearly, the press chose to focus on the interruption because Obama's move on immigration was such blatant political pandering to the Hispanic community. These press people understand that most non-Hispanic Americans do not like the idea that there are now another 800,000 people who will be seeking jobs in our already weak economy. Interestingly, the question that the reporter shouted to Obama was about just this subject. Obama's only answer was that it was "the right thing to do" for America. Translation: "It will help my campaign for re-election."

Update: The Washington Post has an article today which points out the following: opponents of illegal immigration warned that the policy could create significant new competition for jobs and university slots at a time of nationwide recession and numerous states’ efforts to curb public spending. “I see a tidal wave coming,” said Brad Botwin, president of Help Save Maryland, a group that opposes legalization for undocumented immigrants. “Half of our college graduates today can’t find jobs, and the unemployment rate for high-school-aged Americans is extremely high. This is unfair to U.S. citizens and legal immigrants who are out there struggling to get ahead.”
