The Obama campaign made a huge mistake with the decision to attack Mitt Romney for his career at Bain Capital. Most Americans understand that Bain's investments in businesses were made with the full knowledge that not all of them would be successful. As a result, the fact that one investment in a steel company did not end well is not a reason to declare Romney unfit to be president as the Obamacrats contend. Indeed, the fact that about 80% of the Bain investments worked with the result of a great many thriving businesses, many tens of thousands of jobs and major profits for Bain is a wonderful reason to vote FOR Romney. Unlike Obama, he actually understands what it takes to grow a business in the American economy.
But it is not just the public that understands just how silly the Obamacrat attacks on Romney's time at Bain really are; there are many Democrat pols who also get queasy watching this nonsense pour out from the Obama campaign. First came Corey Booker who declared himself nauseated by the Obama attack. In a response reminiscent of the Chinese "Cultural Revolution", the Obamacrats had Booker come forward the next day to announce his new understanding of just how wrong he had been. One wonders if the Obamacrats used enhanced interrogation methods on Booker or if it just looked like they had. Then in rapid order came former DNC chairman and governor of Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell. He was followed by Deval Patrick, governor of Massachusetts. After a batch more, we finally saw Bill Clinton on TV calling Romney's business career "sterling" and proclaiming Romney certainly qualified to be president. Unlike with Booker, the Obamacrats have no way to force Bill Clinton to walk back those remarks.
So Team Obama is watching its entire strategy for the opening of the campaign go down in flames with fellow Democrats throwing fuel on the fires. Do they have the guts to take responsibility for their mistake and move on to another issue? No. They are continuing to attack Romney on this basis. And now they are getting out the knives to attack Clinton. In the Politico today, Roger Simon sets forth the Obamacrat line. According to Simon, Bill Clinton is "out of control". He is trying to take revenge for Obama's victory over Hillary in 2008. Simon does not even consider the possibilty that Clinton may understand the nature of private equity and the good that it does for the economy. Simon ignores the possibility that Romney's business career actually was sterling as Clinton said. No, those are facts, and this was a hit piece. Clinton is just acting out of anger and frustration.
For four years, Obama has never taken responsibility for anything bad that happened. The economy and its problems at different times have been the fault of the following:
1) George Bush
2) The Tsunami in Japan
3) The Arab Spring
4) George Bush
5) The Republicans who are trying to destroy the economy
6) George Bush
7) Europe
8) An Alien Economic Death Ray
9) George Bush
It has always seemed crazy to me that Obama would deny all responsibility for anything bad that happened while trying to claim all credit for anything good. (Remember how Obama stormed single-handedly into Pakistan to capture bin Laden in the most courageous act ever by a president, indeed by any human since the beginning of time?) Then I watch the campaign staff doing the same thing. The people are part of a mass delusion.
