The reviews are in on president Obama's big speech today in Ohio, and they are really terrible. Here is the most favorable description of the speech I have found so far: "The remarks at times seemed like a blend of the soaring oratory that carried the Democrat to his historic victory in 2008 along with the ponderous, laundry-list politics of unsuccessful State of the Union addresses." That was written by the stongly pro-Obama Yahoo News political group. Others, even some of the biggest Obama fans, were not so kind.
The problem with the speech was that Obama took 54 minutes to say not much. He had no plan for the economy. Oh sure, he told us about how education is one of his goals that would help grow the economy. How many of you out there think that improving elementary education will make the economy grow faster next year? He also talked about innovation. That was almost a joke. After all, Obama is the one who put in place regulation after regulation which makes it harder to bring a new idea to market. He spends four years preventing innovation and then he tells us how important it is. The rest was not even that good.
It seems that the great orator of 2008 read too many of his own clippings. He still thinks that he sends tingles up the legs of all those who matter. And, maybe there are still some who get those feelings. But more to the point, it seems that Obama is running for president with a new campaign song: "Is that all there is?"
