Finally The Media Asks the Real Question

Jake Tapper of ABC wrote this in an article that appears on the ABC News website:

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told ABC's This Week that cyber attacks, cyber spying, are "acts of war," begging the question -- has the United States declared war on Iran with this cyber code - this cyber attack on their nuclear program?

It amazes me that the media writes detailed reports of how the USA used computer viruses to attack and destroy much of the Iranian nuclear program, and until now, no one wrote about how this was tantamount to a declaration of war. I know that had the attack been done under George Bush, the media would have been screaming about the destruction of the Constitution and about how Bush was a cowboy attacking a new country every other day. Nevertheless, even under Obama, someone has to look into what happened here. Let me put it this way: suppose tomorrow Iran were to launch ten anti ship missiles against an American aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. Some might denounce it as an evil sneak attack that would rival Pearl Harbor for "perfidy". The truth, however, is that the USA would have no right to complain. After all, we already struck Iran with our computer weapons. Destroying a nuclear facility is no less an act of war than destroying the same facility with missiles or bombs.

Now do not get me wrong. I am in favor of preventing Iran from getting nukes even if it means bombing them. I just think we need to be honest at this point about where things stand. The Iranians surely believe that America is behind the attack on their facilities. If they had any doubt previously, the article in the Times resolved those doubts. We need to be ready for the inevitable counterattack from Iran. That means that America needs to be told the truth now that Obama has leaked so much of the story.
