Maybe It isn't Paranoia

If you spend much time on the internet reading political websites, you will surely come across the theory that Fast and Furious was actually intended by the Obamacrats to cause an upsurge in gun violence along the Mexican border and to lead to calls for stricter gun controls by the federal government. For the longest time, I have dismissed these theories as paranoia. The federal government would not, I thought, get involved in a scheme that could lead to murder and mayhem just to get tighter gun controls. With today's actions by Obama to claim executive privilege, I am no longer so sure about that.

Just think about it. We know that Obama did not assert executive privilege to protect the office of the presidency. Had that been his goal, the privilege would have been asserted many months ago when the request was first made. These requests are dealt with by attorneys at DOJ, and they would have been very atuned to the possible privileges that might be asserted. Indeed, these attorneys would know that to respond to the subpoena without raising the privilege might be deemed at some point to be a waiver of that privilege; in other words, a response that did not raise the privilege might be malpractice on their part.

We also know that the highest official in the Justice Department whose job might be on the line (based upon what we already know) is Lanny Breuer; it was unlikely that Attorney General Eric Holder was deeply involved with Fast and Furious (or so it seemed). Obama has already thrown many others under the bus, so adding Breuer to the list of bodies would not be such a big step. Accordingly, while the White House would be likely to fight and to string this out as long as possible, the ultimate resolution was likely to be some deal that drops a bomb on Breuer's head.

But now, not only is Eric Holder stonewalling Congress, but Obama himself has joined into the fight. This is the same president who supposedly never even heard of Fast and Furious. This is the president who had no involvement whatsoever with the entire operation. This is the president who supposedly was as shocked as Congress to learn that ATF and DOJ were sending assault weapons to the Mexican drug cartels.

So what is going on? Is there some document that has been already seen by many people on the inside which discusses Fast and Furious and the intent to use it to promote gun control? Is there some meeting at which Obama himself approved the program? Just imagine how the average American would feel if he or she knew that Obama authorized a program that directly led to the death of an American border control agent and over 50 people in Mexico. Imagine how the average American would feel upon learning that the Obama-authorize program was never intended to work; no one was following the guns. Indeed, imagine the reaction is we all learned that the Obama plan was to have the guns get to Mexico without any way to trace them back to the federal government and then to sit back and wait until these US guns were used to commit murder and mayhem. Can you say LOSE THE ELECTION!

Given the history of Fast and Furious and the series of "corrections" and "retractions" by the Obamacrats, it is hard to believe that they are just so incompetent. Maybe the paranoid websites are right. After all, as the old expression goes, "Even if you're paranoid, they still may be chasing you."
