Yesterday, I wrote about the NSA surveillance of Americans and said this:
What will come next? My guess is that we will soon learn that records are kept for all cell phones with GPS location systems so that the government knows where each such phone has been since it was first turned on. Maybe the same will happen for cars with navigation systems.
Today, we learned that so called "metadata" being collected on phone calls includes more than just the phone number called and the duration of the call. It also includes, among other things, the records from the GPS locator in the phone. That's right, the government is not "listening" to your phone calls, but it does have detailed records of exactly where your phone has been since you first turned it on.
