The trial of George Zimmerman is starting in Florida. I am curious to see both how it is covered by the media and what the jury decides. Unless you happen to watch Al Sharpton on MSNBC, you probably have not seen much coverage of this matter for months. (Sharpton spent most of the last month on it.) My guess is that we will see wall to wall coverage today, simply because it is something other than an Obama scandal, so the media can finally get away from them. I also expect that Zimmerman will be acquited since there does not seem to be any clear evidence of his guilt. Nevertheless, there may be evidence that has not been made public, so we shall have to wait and see.
No matter what happens, I hope that we can avoid the shrill, race-baiting commentary that surrounded this matter when it first happened. Zimmerman is entitled to a fair trial and Trayvon Martin is entitled to justice. Only in a calm, reasoned atmosphere can that happen.
