It never fails to amaze me just how much of a bubble covers Washington. Today, for example, David Plouffe went on one of the Sunday morning talk shows and said that the IRS attacks on the Tea Party and conservative groups and individuals was "not a political pursuit".
Let's step back for a minute. David Plouffe is one of the most senior advisors to president Obama on political matters. At the time of the IRS illegal conduct, Plouffe and David Axelrod ran the entire White House political operation including the Obama re-election campaign. That means that Plouffe knows a political pursuit when he sees one. Nevertheless, here is David Plouffe on national television commenting on actions by the IRS in which the agents discriminated against groups and individuals that had political views contrary to those held by Obama. Obama's opponents were harassed. Their tax returns were audited. Their proper requests for tax free status were delayed indefinitely so that any fund raising efforts would be prevented. The members of any group that opposed Obama were forced to list their members and contributors who also got special attention from the IRS. OSHA inspectors also visited businesses of those who were Obama opponents. All of this was based purely on the political positions taken by the victims of the IRS/government misconduct. But Plouffe says this was "not a political pursuit."
Look, it may have worked when the White House stonewalled what it did on Fast and Furious. And it may also work (we still have to see) when the White House distorts and delays the truth on Benghazi. These were confusing stories if one did not follow them closely. THAT TRICK WON'T WORK WITH THE IRS!!! Americans, even those who do not pay close attention to the news, understand that having the IRS act like Obama's secret police in attacking his political enemies is in fact a political pursuit. Americans understand that when dozens of conservative groups are attacked but not a single liberal group suffers that fate, it is a political pursuit. Americans understand that demands from the IRS that it will approve a group's tax status only if the group's members sign a pledge to refrain from expressing their political views, it is a political pursuit. We get it.
Plouffe said on TV this morning that if this had been a political pursuit, "it would be the dumbest political effort of all time." Really? Is it dumber to try to sneak political sabotage and misconduct through the system or to try to cover up that sabotage and misconduct once it has been exposed? Clearly, it is much dumber for Plouffe to go out on TV and tell us that nothing here was political than it was to undertake the conduct in the first place. Of course, Plouffe's comments are not illegal, unlike the conduct of the IRS. Nevertheless, it amazes me that Plouffe and the Obamacrats think that they can fool Americans into believing that nothing political was done here.

Jeff, As always one has to follow the money.
Once the truth is unveiled the DEMOCRATIC Party & their finances will be found to have pulled the strings.
Of course, how long can the total truth be covered up by the OBAMACRATS/DEMOCRATS.
Although the GOP is making headway politically, Their NEEDS to be a special prosecutor/investigator handling this IRS debacle.
If NO ONE GOES TO JAIL, This country should have a REVOLUTION!!!
