The True Meaning of Politico

Politico is a web site that supposedly "reports" on politics and political events in America.  It doesn't.  In truth, Politico is just another leftist opinion site that pretends to report news but actually tries to do what it can to promote the Democrats.  I was struck by that truth today when I read an article on Politico about a new candidate for Congress in the Illinois 13th Congressional District.  Erica Harold is a Harvard educated lawyer who announced that she is running for the Republican nomination against the current congressman in next year's primary.  While Harold may or may not win that primary, what struck me about the coverage on Politico was how it mocked her efforts.

In order to understand this, you need to know two things:  first, Ms. Harold was Miss America in 2003.  Second, Ms. Harold is mixed race, being part Cherokee, part black and part white.  That means she is an existential threat to the Democrats, a minority woman who is beautiful, smart and Republican.  Accordingly, Politico wasted no time in going on the attack.  They treated her as if she is some sort of brain dead beauty queen opining on "World Peace" in the movie Miss Congeniality.  Most likely Ms. Harold who graduated with honors from the University of Illinois before getting her law degree at Harvard is more intelligent than the Politico hack who wrote the article.  Nevertheless, Politico wants to paint this woman as dumb and misguided immediately.  They just cannot take the chance that the electorate in Illinois and (heavens' forbid) the country take a liking to this candidate.

Because of this conduct, I decided to figure out where the name Politico came from.  It turns out that "politico" is an old Sioux word for what comes out of male cattle.
