The traitor/hero of the moment, Mr. Snowden, now says that the NSA is hacking Chinese computer systems. This actually explains a lot to me.
First of all, it seemed odd that Snowden would disclose the PRISM system and then flee..............to Hong Kong. After all, Hong Kong is part of China which is hardly a bastion of liberty. The Chinese government keeps tabs on its citizens to a much much greater extent than America does. There are secret police, limitless searches and no right of privacy in China. So why would Snowden run there in the name of freedom and liberty.
When Snowden first showed up in Hong Kong, there were some who said that his presence there indicated that it really was the Chinese who had set this whole thing up in order to take the spotlight off of Chinese hacking of American computer systems. With the Chinese president meeting with president Obama in California, Snowden's outburst was a way of saying America spies on its people too. My initial reaction was that the people saying this had read one too many spy novels.
Snowden's new "disclosure" that the NSA is spying on Chinese computer systems changes things. Snowden, we are told, was not in a position where he would be aware of any activity of this sort. That makes this look more like a planted story. In addition, if Snowden's goal is to protect Americans from unreasonable searches, why would he be worried about international activities of the NSA? We know that the Chinese are hacking into our systems; why wouldn't we do the same in response?
If anything, this latest "news" really undermines everything that Snowden said. This may all be a Chinese tactic and nothing more.
It would be nice if we were able to learn the truth, but that seems unlikely for the time being.
