It's Worth Taking A Look at Reality

Senator Chuck Schumer has been tweeting every morning that today is [insert date] and President Trump still has no national strategy for testing.  It's just another of Schumer's annoying tweets, but it isn't even close to being true.  It made me think of everything that has happened with the virus and the bogus responses that came from the media and the Democrats in Congress.  Here are some of the greatest hits:

1.  The granddaddy of all these stories dealt with ventilators.  As the crisis began, we got endless stories in the media and about the same numbers of complaints from Congressional Democrats that the USA was unprepared.  We didn't have enough ventilators.  Hospitals were going to have to make choices among the sick as to who would receive treatment on those ventilators.  Trump absolutely had to invoke the Defense Production Act and take control of all manufacturing of ventilators nationwide if we were ever to even come close to having sufficient numbers.  The federal government had to step in to allocate the ventilators or some places would be left with too few.  The national stockpile of ventilators was way too small for the problem and everything in that stockpile had to be rushed to places like New York where there was an obvious terrible shortage of the machines.  Remember all those stories?  It was the non-stop news all through the month of March.

So what happened.  We had enough ventilators.  No one in the USA who needed a ventilator was ever denied one.  Production was ramped up by eleven manufacturers to the point where the USA is now the ventilator capital of the world.  We are sending these machines to other countries to help them now.  The national stockpile was used effectively to cover temporary needs in the various states.  In short, this was a problem dealt with effectively by the President and his team.

2.  So when ventilators didn't work out the way the media and the Dems in Congress said they would, what was their response?  Did they say "job well done!"  Nope.  Governors who actually had to deal with the problem did just that, however.  The Democrats who were governors of hard hit states were very publicly thankful for all the federal government had done.  That includes the Democrats who run NY, CA and NJ.  The media and the Dems in Congress, however, moved on to their next attack point.  This time we were told that there was insufficient masks especially for first responders.  Those N95 masks were in such short supply, we were told, that many hospital workers had to go without one.  There's no question that there was an initial shortage.  In part that is the result of China buying up these masks in early January around the world.  But then the feds went into action.  Production of the masks was increased to the point where we are now swimming in those masks.  On top of that, the President pushed through review and approval of machines that sterilize these masks so that they can be reused up to 20 times.  The problem went away.

3.  Again, there were no kudos given to the administration by the non-stop critics.  They just moved on to testing.  That's the subject that Schmuck Schumer is now still tweeting about.  There weren't enough tests!  That was the big point.  And early on, there weren't enough tests.  The problem was two-fold.  First, we didn't have tests that were reliable.  Those had to be developed in response to the particular virus.  Second, the testing structure in place for the last 20 years was designed for a small and localized outbreak, not a pandemic of the sort the world faced.  Right away, the feds started moving on developing better tests.  Then President Trump stepped in and brought the private sector labs in to help handle testing.  That increased the capability across the USA to handle many thousands more tests.  Then more and more new tests and testing modalities were invented and approved.

We are now swimming in tests, but the media and the Dems are still calling for more.  Remember, the experts told us that for the entire country to enter into phase one reopening, we would need to have 4 million tests per month so they wanted 5 million per month just to be safe.  As of yesterday, we were testing across America at an average rate of 9 million tests per month.  9 MILLION TESTS PER MONTH!!!!  That's what that liar Schumer calls an inadequate national strategy.

And let's not forget the great swab hysteria.  That was part of the testing hysteria.  The media and the Dems screamed that we just didn't have swabs.  That's it; we're all going to die due to the President!  Of course, in a few days that crying ended because there were more than adequate supplies of swabs sent to wherever they were needed.  Notice that there were no articles written about how the swab supplies were adequate; the story about inadequate supplies just stopped appearing.

4.  And let's not forget the claim that Trump didn't act quickly enough so thousands died.  That's an ongoing one even still.  It's worth noting that just today, the German media is reporting that on January 20, President Xi of China spoke to the head of the WHO and asked him to put off announcing that human to human transmission of the virus was possible.  WHO said nothing about that until January 24th.  That was the first confirmation that there even could be a pandemic.  China was lying about it until then.  Within three days, the President barred entry to the USA of anyone coming from China except for Americans who were returning home.  The Dems like Biden and Pelosi slammed that move.  Trump was racist!  Trump was xenophobic!  There was no danger from the virus!  Trump was overreacting!  Of course, now they say he waited too long.  Just think what they would have done had they been in power.

5.  Now we are at the great reopening debate.  The Dems for some reason seem to want to keep the country on lockdown.  Millions of Americans who are out of work and unable to feed their families are supposed to starve so that the virus will be defeated and no one else will die.  Except we all know that won't happen.  The virus has hit all sorts of places where great care has been taken to keep it out.  In NY, more than 80% of new infections are coming from people who have been hiding at home.  Still, the Dems want to destroy America, our economy and our families in an effort to do something that does not work.  They castigate Trump and their opponents as uncaring about anything but profits.  They just don't understand.

We need to stop paying any heed to these fools.  We shut down to flatten the curve, not to eradicate the virus.  We didn't want hospitals to be overwhelmed; we always knew that there would be large numbers of deaths.  Indeed, the experts told us that the best we could hope for with social distancing was a total death toll of 100,000.  The shutdown was NOT a national suicide pact.  We need to reopen.
