Around the world, there are still countries where cases of the corona virus is increasing rapidly. The big five among these countries are: Russia, Brazil, Canada, Peru and India with Saudi Arabia and Mexico not far behind. Meanwhile, some of the other countries that have been very hard hit are seeing the virus drop dramatically. Spain is the best example of that phenomenon. It went from an average of 8000 new cases per day about a month ago to just 500 new cases yesterday. In the USA, the number of new cases is slowly trending lower, although because of the huge increases in testing, the drop may actually be more rapid except that some minor cases are getting picked up by the extra tests.
What is most interesting about these numbers is what seems to be the random nature of the new hot spots. Mexico and India are warm countries that should have relatively fewer cases of a virus that does not thrive in warm, humid environments. Russia had cases during the Russian winter, but now that Spring has brought warmth, the numbers are exploding. That makes no sense. Of course, all this may be the result of better or more widespread testing.
This virus never fails to confound those seeking to understand its path.
