The Truth About Testing

The Democrats are still pushing a storyline that the President has "no national strategy for testing".  The dishonest Chuck Schumer tweets this every day.  Many other Democrats like Pelosi repeat this as a mantra.  It has been going non-stop for weeks.  The essence of the complaint, supposedly, is that the USA does not have enough testing to reopen.

But what's the truth?

1.  During the second half of April when the reopening phases were released by the White House Corona Task Force, the plan was to have at least 5 million tests available monthly.  Dr. Birx said that we would need the ability to have 1.25 million tests per week so that we would have excess capacity.  Most likely, we only would need 1 million per week (or 4 million per month).  This was her opinion as well as that of Dr. Fauci and also the director of the CDC.  Anyone who listened to the briefings (as opposed to reading reports in the media) knows this.

2.  At that same time, many Democrats scoffed at the idea we could have that many tests   The media mocked the idea.  After all, there was a shortage of swabs or reagents or some other item needed to do that many tests.  It just couldn't happen.  This was where the Democrats' mantra that Trump had no national testing strategy was born.

3.  In the last six days, the total national number of tests performed has been right around 1.5 million.  These are tests for the virus and do not include antibody tests which look for evidence of prior infection.  That's approximately 250,000 tests per day.  One day, there were actually 302,000 tests.  At that rate, the USA would have 7.5 million tests done per month.  That's 50% more than the number of tests required for the whole country to go into phase one of the reopening.

This is great news.  After all the fears about problems with testing, we have way more than the necessary number of tests.

So what is the response from the Democrats?

Here's the first line of Schumer's tweet from a few hours ago:

"Pres. Trump still doesn't have an adequate national testing strategy"

Schumer now wants to test 5 million people per day across the country.  He doesn't want the 5 million per month that the experts say is needed (and which we have surpassed).  No, he wants 30 times that amount.  Think about that for a minute.  If the testing follows the case load, Schumer wants to test about 1.3 million people in New York City every day.  If the testing follows the population only, Schumer still wants to test 150,000 people in NYC each day.  I focus on NYC because it is the epicenter of the outbreak and it gives a more manageable understanding of what Schumer is saying.  Simply put, there is no way to test 150,000 people in New York City.  And Schumer is also saying that until we get to that point, the country cannot reopen.

Schumer understands that what he is advocating is idiotic.  He's actually calling for the country to stay shut indefinitely.  And he's doing it only so that he can criticize the President for political gain.  And yet, Schumer is not alone.  He is the exemplar of the entire Democrat Washington establishment that is pushing this BS idea in the hopes of causing fear and chaos among Americans so that they will vote against Trump in November.  It's worth noting that the Democrat governors across America are not, NOT, saying the same things.  They are moving towards reopening.  Some are going more quickly, and some more slowly.  These governors know that they are responsible for their states.  They can't just sit around and lie for political gain.

In November, people should remember what the Democrats in DC are doing now.  The Dems in the House and Senate should be voted out.
