Yesterday afternoon, a poll was released which asked Americans whether or not they thought Attorney General Eric Holder had to go. The result was startling. By a margin of 42 to 24 percent (with 34% unsure) these people call for Holder to be dumped.
This is big news for a number of reasons. First, it means that a big percentage of the public is aware of all the scandals that are underway. Second, it means also that Holder's false statements to Congress as well as his approval of secret snooping on reporters has made it into the national consciousness. Third, it means that president Obama's base does not have a high level of support for Holder. Remember, Obama got just over 50% of the vote, but now only 24% support Obama's Attorney General. While it is possible that the entire 42% who want Holder gone is comprised of folks who voted for Romney, this is highly unlikely. More likely, a major chunk of the Obama voters have now turned on Holder. In view of this, it is only a matter of time before the White House concludes that Holder has to go before he destroys the Obama coalition. In fairness, however, Obama is doing a pretty good job of that already, but Holder is still going to be dumped soon.
